Challah French Toast Extravaganza

2024-09-24

Who says leftover challah is a problem? Thick slices soak up a rich custard and grill into golden French toast with crisp edges and a plush center. The best Sunday breakfast starts with Friday's bread.

Ingredients

  • Leftover challah
  • Milk
  • Eggs
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  2. Dip or soak the challah slices in the mixture. The longer the soak, the more custardy the result.
  3. Heat a pan and give it a good spray.
  4. Fry each slice until golden on both sides.
  5. Finish in a 350°F oven for a few minutes for the perfect crisp.
  6. Serve with a drizzle of maple syrup and a dollop of whipped cream.
  7. Variation: stuff two slices with cream cheese before dipping for stuffed French toast.

Bake a bigger challah this week. Sunday breakfast will thank you.
